How often should you service your car part 3...
If you want to just carry out routine servicing not following manufacturers schedule on a vehicle that is a little older I would recommend every 10000 km or 6 months however if you do low kms I would recommend every 12 months.
One thing you need to be aware of is that if you do low mileage short trips the oil in your engine gets a lot more contamination than if you do longer trips. This is the reason that cars traveling low kms per year still need to be serviced.
Service every 10000 km or 6 months however if you do low kms, every 12 months.
Modern cars are made with very small tolerances in their engines and are very easy to clog up with sludge. Under normal servicing flushes are not necessary as modern oils have detergents in them that keep the engine clean, if service is overdue the mechanic may need to use a flushing additive before changing oil.
If the sludge build up is high because servicing has not been carried out the detergents in the new oil can clean the sludge off the inside of the engine and depositing it in the bottom of the engine causing it to block the pickup which will cause terminal engine failure.
