This is the million dollar question asked by all good mechanics. The first thing is if the motor vehicle is under new vehicle warranty, if so the vehicle will need to be serviced as per the manufacturers specifications. Here is a quote from a Hyundai service manual:

Manufacturers have very different service schedules, Most Cars have 10-15000km service intervals, However they say that is under ideal conditions.

If you want to just carry out routine servicing not following manufacturers schedule on a vehicle that is a little older I would recommend every 10000 km or 6 months however if you do low kms I would recommend every 12 months.
